Founder of Japan’s Beenos Starts $60 Million Asian Venture Fund

Teruhide Sato, the founder of Japanese e-commerce operator Beenos Inc., started a $60 million venture capital fund to invest in technology startups in India and Southeast Asia.

Sato formed Beenext Pte in Singapore to manage the fund, which will consider investments such as Internet and mobile technology companies in India, he said in a Sept. 1 interview. Beenos has committed $5 million to the fund, according to spokeswoman Nagisa Okano.

The entrepreneur, who currently lives in Singapore, is starting the fund after stepping down from the chief executive officer post at Beenos in December. Sato founded Beenos’s predecessor, Netprice.com Ltd., in 1999 and led its initial public offering on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2004…
