Wall St Vet Wins Majority of Ballots in Peru Knife-Edge Vote

After four days of tense counting, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, a 77-year-old former finance minister and Wall Street veteran, has won the majority of votes in Peru’s presidential election, vowing a liberal, internationalist approach, including issuing bonds, cutting taxes and building roads and water systems.

In the closest such race in the country’s history, Kuczynski had 50.12 percent of votes with all the ballots processed, compared with 49.88 percent for Keiko Fujimori, the election office said Thursday. The office is expected to announce him the official winner in the next few days. The final result may vary slightly because 0.22 percent of ballots are being reviewed by special electoral courts…
