Mike Cavanagh Leaves Carlyle After A Year To Become Next Comcast CFO

Mike Cavanagh is decamping private equity giant Carlyle Group after roughly one year with the firm to become Comcast’s CMCSA -1.01% next chief financial officer. Cavanagh’s hiring comes as current CFO Michael Angelakis prepares to launch a $4 billion, Comcast-backed company to invest in growth areas in the media and internet space, and just weeks after the cancellation of the company’s $45 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable.

Cavanagh surprised Wall Street in March 2014 when he left JPMorgan Chase JPM -0.06% for Carlyle Group. Once thought of as a possible heir apparent CEO Jamie Dimon, Cavanagh moved to Carlyle Group after helping JPMorgan recover from an embarrassing $6 billion ‘London Whale’ trading loss, rising to co-head its corporate and investment bank amid a reshuffle of top executives…
